This site chronicles photos & family history for the Sasso Family.
Family History Research
I started building on the research my brother, Ralph, started long ago. Many of the family documents and family tree information are based on things he researched and sent to me.
Where possible, we have attached documentation or evidence of what relationships and data provided. If you have other information or conflicting information, please send us a note with the new evidence to jamienavarro@gmail.com or ralphnavarro1@gmail.com.
Family Photos
The photos are a compilation from my father's photo albums and slides, my Grandmother Navarro's (Betty Sasso) photo album, and some of the photos I received from Aunt Cookie after my Grandmother passed away.
I'm hoping this site can be one that family members are also able to share their photos. If you have a few photos to share, you can always just send them to me or put them in a Google folder to share. Please contact me at jamienavarro@gmail.com.

Based on all the information my brother and I have been able to gather
We are unsure if Donata's parents immigrated to the US or not. It was new information during our research that Uncle Mike Viggiano listed a different mother and then we uncovered a birth record for Bernardina, so we are unsure the story behind all of that (if maybe one of the mothers - probably Tina - died at some point and Giovanni remarried and had other children). We did find Elizabeth Puntillo's death record from Bernalda in 1903, so know she did not immigrate to the US.
There are also several references to Viggiani instead of Viggiano. Along with that, there are definitey 2 different Leonard Viggiano and Leonard Viggianis that lived near each other in the south end of Albany during the early 1900s, which make it not so easy to figure out which one a record or news report may be discussing.
On the Sasso side, we may have some info on Addolarata's maiden name, but are researching that to verify it.

We are still looking for everyone's immigration documents, but have Giovanni's and his daughter. (We don't have Patsy's arrival info or his two other sister's info)

We are still looking for everyone's immigration documents, but do have Uncle Mike Viggiano's. We are unsure about if Donata's parents immigrated or not. We are also researching which mother belonged to each of the siblings as we have documents with different mothers for some of the Viggianos.

This was first generation of Sassos to speak English. Most of their parents and grandparents only spoke Italian even though they had lived in the US for 20 plus years and eventually became citizens.

Old family videos from Uncle Charlie, Bubby's Family video collection, Wedding and Birthday Parties
Many of the older photos we were able to gather came from my Grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Sasso Navarro. I think many of our cousins have some of the photos from this book that were passed along before we were able to get these scanned/copied, so feel free to share photos/scans of them. Grandma also saved a lot of the documents as well and I have been able to get pictures of them from Aunt Cookie.

A common name in Italy, Sasso means "Stone"
This is the label from a brand of olive oil made in Italy named Sasso, but I don't believe there is any connection to our family.
